What is this course about?

Staying safe online is a fundamental part of your school strategy in terms of key messages for pupils, staff and parents. Ofsted’s “Inspecting E-Safety” Report recommended that schools, “Provide an age-related, comprehensive curriculum for e-safety that enables pupils to become safe and responsible users of new technologies” and also “Systematically review and develop their E-Safety procedures, including training, to ensure that they have a positive impact on pupils’ knowledge and understanding”. Schools are increasingly finding that having a group of pupils involved as digital leaders has helped them to effectively promote these important messages.

What does this course cover?

The course will cover a wide range of themes including personal and professional issues, vulnerability, grooming, cyber-bullying, sexting, radicalisation, social media including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.  It also gives helpful guidance to teachers about protecting their online identity and suggests practical steps that schools can use to implement effective E-Safety procedures. As part of the course you will receive online safety lessons, content and presentations that can be rolled out to classes and begin a process of E-Safety self-review. You will be given advice and resources that you can use to promote online safety and create your own digital leaders group.

Who is it suitable for?

This course is suitable for any teacher, teaching assistant, coach, consultant, trainer or Ofsted inspector who is working with primary or secondary schools.

What is the duration of the course?

The course is one full day from 9am for registration and refreshments for a 9.30am start through to 4pm.

How is it assessed?

Your needs will be assessed and responded to throughout the day. There is no formal assessment required on your part.  You will be provided with a colour bound course booklet and a 2GB memory stick with the PowerPoint used and numerous documents providing background reading.
