School children celebrating World Book Day at the Stables Conference & Meeting Venue

Where's Wally and Goldilocks.

On 5th of March we celebrated World Book Day at The Stables. A lot of children were dressed up as a book character on that day and so were our lovely guests.

World book Day is held annually in the UK on the first Thursday in March. Every child in full-time education in the UK is given a voucher redeem to a book. World Book Day was first celebrated in the UK in 1995. The original, global World Book Day event is generally observed on 23 April.

The framework for school inspection from January 2012

Ofsted revealed its framework for school inspection on 30th September 2011. It sets out the statutory basis for inspection and summarises the main features of school inspections carried out under section 5 of the Education Act 2005 from January 2012. This is a draft framework and is marked as such because these changes to inspection arrangements are subject to Parliamentary approval when the Education Bill receives Royal Assent. Click here to access the new framework.

See the afTLC Ltd calendar to ascertain when we are running courses around the new Ofsted framework with a focus on the implications for physical education.

In Deep: Learning to Learn

On Wednesday 6th July a new book by Andy Frapwell and Steve Caldecott was launched.   The foreword to the book was written by Mick Waters, currently director of the Curriculum Foundation, previously Director of QCDA.  Mick recommends the book and comments “This one (book) achieves something special; it links the theory, with the current and emerging policy context, with real practical examples from schools and classrooms. The style is engaging and the authors have used narrative and story carefully to exemplify some significant points.”

There is currently a launch publications offer of 20% Discount on the RRP. Order online HERE for only £18.39 and use the following voucher code: IDEX71.

afPE Annual Conference

The Association for Physical Education (afPE) Annual Conference took place in Heythrop Park on the 6th-8th July 2011.

On Thursday 7th July Andy Frapwell (afTLC) and Kevin Barton (QCDA) addressed the afPE Annual Conference in a mini key note presentation on Assessment: Where next?  The address explored poor, unreliable and invalid methods of assessment largely centred on the misuse of levels and shared QCDA Assessment Exemplification materials.  Methods of Assessing Pupils’ Progress were referenced, but it was stressed that further in depth engagement was required to fully explore the nuances of effective assessment processes that do not take up all of a teacher’s spare time.
